Needlepoint Shops in Westchester County
Three shops: two in the south of the county, in Tuckahoe and Larchmont, and one up north in Katonah, across from the train station.
The three Westchester shops on this page sit at two ends of the county. Bargello Needlepoint in Tuckahoe and Stitch by Stitch in Larchmont are in the south, under four miles apart, and Stitch Katonah is more than twenty miles north of both, in Katonah.
The two southern shops make an easy pair. Katonah is a separate trip, and all three are close to a Metro-North station.

A full-service shop started by two friends, Christine and Leslie, with canvases, fibers, accessories, finishing, and trunk shows.
Wednesday is the late day: it opens at 2pm and stays open until 7:30pm. Outside the posted hours, the shop also sees stitchers by appointment.

Canvases, threads, and finishing, with custom painting from a photograph, custom stitching, trunk shows, and a beginner class held through the year that you book by phone.
The hours above run from Labor Day to Memorial Day, and the shop does not publish its summer hours, so call before a visit in June, July, or August. Some retailer lists give the address as 1971 Palmer Avenue; the shop's own site gives 1953.

A full-service shop opened by Margaret and her niece Kristina, who also own Stitch Miami, with canvases, classes and events, and finishing.
It is across from the Katonah Metro-North station, with parking nearby. Wednesday is the late day, until 6pm, and a visit outside the posted hours can be arranged by email at info@stitchkatonah.com.
Which one to go to
On a Monday, go to Stitch Katonah, the one of the three open that day. The other two open Tuesday to Saturday.
After work, go to Bargello Needlepoint on a Wednesday, when it stays open until 7:30pm. Stitch Katonah is open until 6pm on Wednesdays.
If you are just starting, Stitch by Stitch runs a beginner class through the year. It will also paint a canvas from your own photograph.
Before you go
- Weekends are short. None of the three opens on a Sunday, and on Saturdays Bargello and Stitch Katonah close at 2pm and Stitch by Stitch at 3pm.
- Call Stitch by Stitch in summer. Its posted hours run from Labor Day to Memorial Day.
- Ask for an appointment if the hours do not suit. Bargello and Stitch Katonah both see stitchers outside their posted hours by arrangement.
- Bring the canvas if you have one. Thread and mesh have to be matched to the specific canvas, and nobody can do that from a photograph. See our thread guide for what that pairing involves.
FAQ
Can I get to them by train?
Yes. Bargello Needlepoint is about a tenth of a mile from Tuckahoe station, and Stitch by Stitch about a quarter of a mile from Larchmont station, both measured in a straight line. Stitch Katonah is across from Katonah station.
Can I get a finished piece made up?
All three take finishing. Ask about timing well before a holiday.
