Needlepoint Shops on the Jersey Shore

Five shops, three in Monmouth and Ocean counties and two about sixty miles south, in Ocean City and Cape May.

The Jersey Shore has five needlepoint shops we can confirm, in two groups about sixty miles apart. In the north, Threads Too is on River Road in Fair Haven and Stitching Pretty is on Route 35 in Eatontown, under six miles apart, and Bay Head Needlepoint is about fifteen miles further south in Bay Head. In the south, Scrim Discovery Needlepoint is on Haven Avenue in Ocean City and Stitch by Stitch is on Ocean Street in Cape May, about thirty miles apart.

Two of them give seasonal hours and a third publishes none, so this is a stretch of coast to call ahead on.

Which one to go to

On a Sunday, Stitching Pretty in Eatontown is open from 10am to 2pm, and in the fall Bay Head Needlepoint is open from 10am to 4pm.

After work, Stitching Pretty stays open until 6pm on Wednesdays. The others that publish hours close by 4pm.

For framing as well as finishing, Stitching Pretty and Scrim Discovery both frame.

For a canvas of the town you are visiting, Bay Head Needlepoint has Bay Head designs of its own, and Stitch by Stitch carries Cape May ones. Stitch by Stitch also sells cross stitch.

Before you go

• Check the season. Bay Head Needlepoint publishes fall hours, Thursday to Sunday, and Scrim Discovery opens Wednesday to Saturday in fall and winter and Monday to Saturday in summer.
• Call Stitch by Stitch first. It publishes no hours on its site.
• Plan around the closing days. Stitching Pretty publishes no hours for Friday or Saturday, Threads Too is closed on Sundays, and Scrim Discovery publishes no Sunday hours.
• Bring the canvas if you have one. Thread and mesh have to be matched to the specific canvas, and nobody can do that from a photograph. See our thread guide for what that pairing involves.

FAQ

Is there a needlepoint shop in Red Bank, Asbury Park, or Point Pleasant?

Not in those towns that we have been able to confirm, but each has one close by. Threads Too is about two miles from the middle of Red Bank, Stitching Pretty is under five miles from the middle of Asbury Park, and Bay Head Needlepoint is about a mile and a half from the middle of Point Pleasant Beach.

What about Atlantic City, Avalon, or Stone Harbor?

Scrim Discovery in Ocean City is about ten miles from the middle of Atlantic City and about sixteen from the middle of Avalon. Stitch by Stitch in Cape May is about eleven miles from the middle of Stone Harbor.

Can I see the northern shops in one day?

Threads Too and Stitching Pretty, under six miles apart, are both open from Tuesday to Thursday, and Bay Head Needlepoint's fall hours start on Thursday, which makes Thursday the day for all three. One line on Bay Head's site says it opens on Fridays, so call before counting on it.

Is Stitch by Stitch the same shop as the one in Larchmont?
