About this site.
Who runs this site. My name is Matt Harrington, and I build it and keep it running. The needlepoint here is my friend Alexandria's: she has stitched for fifteen years, calls herself a hobbyist, and has completed, and had finished, almost as many pieces as she has started.
She wanted two things she could not find in one place. Everything a stitcher needs to know, and a list of real shops you can walk into. That is what this site is trying to be, and she still sends me things to add and to improve on a regular basis. I write up the regions, check every listing, take the photographs, and answer the email.
What is here. Needlepoint shops you can walk into, written up region by region, and guides for people who have just started. Today that is 287 shops in 122 regions across 43 states and DC, and 15 guides. It leaves out cross stitch shops, online-only sellers, and canvas designers without a storefront, because the question this site exists to answer is where you can go, see the colors in person, and ask someone who stitches.
How every listing is checked. Each address, phone number, and set of opening hours on a region page came from the shop's own website, or from the shop itself. Not from a search result, and not from another directory. Those get needlepoint shops wrong more often than you would expect: the wrong state, an address a shop left years ago, a cross stitch shop filed under needlepoint.
When a detail cannot be confirmed at the source, the page says so instead of filling the gap with a guess. Today 84 of the 287 listings carry a note like that. Four shops have no working website of their own, and their pages say where their details came from. One shop's phone number is here because it was read off the shop's own card, in the shop. Opening hours change, and a shop can close for a week without telling anyone, so call before you drive.
Corrections. If something here is wrong, tell me and I will fix it. When a shop owner wrote in September 2026 to correct her listing, the page was rewritten the same day, with her phone number and the shop's real history in place of what had been published. Corrections from shop owners go to the top of the list.
The photographs. The pictures of thread walls on this page, the homepage, the thread guide, and the Rhode Island page were taken by me, in a needlepoint shop in Newport, Rhode Island, in September 2026, with permission. They are a real shop, not stock photography.
The map on the homepage. It shows the shops written up on the region pages and nothing else, so everything on it has been checked. Search by ZIP code or town and it lists the nearest ones, with the distance to each. Where none of ours is within 75 miles, it says so and offers a Google Maps search instead, which is Google's list, not mine.
How the site pays for itself. Some links in the guides go to Amazon, and as an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. No region page carries an affiliate link. No shop pays to be listed, and no shop can pay to be listed.
