Needlepoint Shops in Fairfield County

Two shops, one on the Old Greenwich shoreline and one inland in Wilton.

Needlepoint has held on in Fairfield County longer than it has in most parts of the country. The shoreline towns here are old and traditional in their tastes. That is the kind of place where a needlepoint shop lasts decades rather than seasons, and one of the two listed below has been trading for over fifty years.

The two are a long way apart. The Village Ewe sits on the shoreline at the western edge of the county, minutes from the New York line. The Enriched Stitch is inland on Route 7 in Wilton, north of the commuter towns. Between them lies a stretch we are still working on, and there is a note about that below.

Before you go

• Call the Wilton shop first. The Enriched Stitch does not publish its hours, and Route 7 is a long drive to find a closed door.
• Treat these as two trips. Old Greenwich to Wilton is a real drive across the county, and The Village Ewe closes at 4pm. We do not know what time The Enriched Stitch closes, which is the other reason to call first.
• Bring the canvas if you have one. Thread and mesh have to be matched to the specific canvas, and nobody can do that from a photograph. See our thread guide for what that pairing involves.

Is there a needlepoint shop in Greenwich itself?

The Village Ewe is in Old Greenwich, which is a village inside the town of Greenwich rather than a separate town. From Greenwich Avenue it is a short drive east along the shoreline.

Is The Village Ewe a yarn shop?

No, despite the name. It is a needlepoint shop, with canvases from more than fifty designers and a thread range to match. A yarn shop serves knitting and crochet, which is a different craft with different materials.

How far apart are the two shops?

Far enough to matter. Old Greenwich sits on the water at the western end of the county, and Wilton is inland to the northeast. Plan them as two afternoons rather than one.
