Two shops about six miles apart, one in the city on Patterson Avenue and one further out in Henrico County.

Richmond's two needlepoint shops are about six miles apart, both northwest of downtown. The Stitching Studio is on Patterson Avenue in the city, about five miles from City Hall, and West End Needlepoint is in the Glen Eagle Shopping Center on Ridgefield Parkway, in Henrico County, about eleven miles out.

Both are closed on Sundays and Mondays, and the one evening between them is Wednesday at West End Needlepoint, until 7:30pm.

Which one to go to

After work, go to West End Needlepoint on a Wednesday, when it stays open until 7:30pm. The Stitching Studio closes at 5pm from Tuesday to Friday.

On a lunch break, The Stitching Studio holds a Lunch Break Stitch-In on the third Thursday of the month, from 11am to 3pm.

For a lesson on your own schedule, The Stitching Studio books private classes, one-on-one or for a small group, by phone or through its site.

Before you go

• Saturdays end early. The Stitching Studio closes at 4pm and West End Needlepoint at 3pm.
• Bring the canvas if you have one. Thread and mesh have to be matched to the specific canvas, and nobody can do that from a photograph. See our thread guide for what that pairing involves.

Is there a needlepoint shop in downtown Richmond or Carytown?

Not one we can confirm. The Stitching Studio on Patterson Avenue is the nearer of the two, about five miles northwest of City Hall and about two and a half miles northwest of Carytown.

Which is nearer to Short Pump?

West End Needlepoint, about two and a half miles south of the middle of Short Pump. The Stitching Studio is about eight miles southeast of it.

Do either of them do finishing?

Both do. The Stitching Studio takes pieces in the shop or by mail, with forms on its site. West End Needlepoint finishes pieces bought from it, and also leather pieces and stockings bought elsewhere. Read our finishing guide first so you know what the costs and timelines look like.
