Needlepoint Shops in Greater Boston

Five shops: Stitch Boutique's three, in Boston, Wellesley, and Winchester, New England Needlepoint in Marblehead, and The World In Stitches in Littleton.

Greater Boston has five needlepoint shops we can confirm, and three of them are Stitch Boutique's. The Boston shop is on Boylston Street, about a mile and a half southwest of City Hall. The Winchester shop is about seven and a half miles northwest of City Hall, and the Wellesley shop about thirteen miles west. New England Needlepoint is on Washington Street in Marblehead, about fifteen miles northeast of City Hall, and sells canvases its owner, Marissa, designs herself. The World In Stitches is on Great Road in Littleton, about twenty-four miles northwest of City Hall, and sells needlepoint alongside cross stitch and yarn.

Wellesley and Winchester close at 3pm, and Boston and Marblehead at 4pm, with a later Wednesday in Boston and an earlier Saturday, at 2pm, in Marblehead, so plan on a morning or early afternoon visit. The World In Stitches stays open until 5pm from Wednesday to Friday.

Which one to go to

On a Monday, Wellesley opens at 10am and Boston at 11am. Winchester, Marblehead, and Littleton are closed.

After work, Boston, which stays open until 7:30pm on Wednesdays.

From the north, Winchester. From the west, Wellesley. On the North Shore, New England Needlepoint in Marblehead, open from Wednesday to Saturday. From the northwest or southern New Hampshire, The World In Stitches in Littleton, also open from Wednesday to Saturday.

For canvases of Marblehead and the coast, New England Needlepoint, whose nautical designs are hand-painted in the town.

If you also do cross stitch or knit, The World In Stitches, which carries counted cross stitch supplies and yarn alongside its needlepoint.

Before you go

• Nothing opens on a Sunday without an appointment. All five are closed. New England Needlepoint is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays too, and The World In Stitches from Sunday to Tuesday, when it will open if you call for an appointment.
• Book a Stitch Boutique beginner class by phone. Each of the three shops runs its own, and the Stitch Boutique site gives the number to call for each.
• Bring the canvas if you have one. Thread and mesh have to be matched to the specific canvas, and nobody can do that from a photograph. See our thread guide for what that pairing involves.

Is Stitch Boutique the only needlepoint shop in Boston?

In the city itself, it is the only one we can confirm. Stitch Boutique runs three of the five shops on this page; the other two are New England Needlepoint, in Marblehead, and The World In Stitches, in Littleton.

What happened to the Wellesley Needlepoint Collection?

Older listings still show it at 22 Grove Street with the phone number (781) 235-2477. Both are now Stitch Boutique's Wellesley address and number.

Where else can I go near Boston?

Is there anything on the North Shore or toward Concord?

On the North Shore, yes: New England Needlepoint is in Marblehead, about two and a half miles east of the middle of Salem and about three and a half miles south of the middle of Beverly. Toward Concord, The World In Stitches in Littleton is the nearest, about seven and a half miles northwest of the middle of Concord.

Is there a needlepoint shop near Lowell or Nashua?

Not in either city that we have been able to confirm. The World In Stitches in Littleton is the nearest to both, about ten miles southwest of the middle of Lowell and about fourteen miles south of the middle of Nashua, New Hampshire.

Can I see all three Stitch Boutique shops in a day?

Yes, from Tuesday to Saturday, when all three are open. They are between about seven and a half and thirteen miles apart. With two of them closing at 3pm, start in Wellesley or Winchester and finish in Boston, which stays open until 4pm, or until 7:30pm on a Wednesday.
