Needlepoint Shops on the South Shore and South Coast

Four shops between Hingham and Padanaram, and what each one is like to walk into.

The South Shore and South Coast have four needlepoint shops we can confirm. Three are on the South Shore, between about eleven and eighteen miles from Boston City Hall: Hingham Square Needlepoint in Hingham, Greenhouse Needlepoint in Hanover, and Carriage House Needlepoint in Abington. The fourth, Seagrass Studio, is on the water in South Dartmouth, about five miles south of the middle of New Bedford.

Greenhouse Needlepoint and Carriage House are just under five miles apart, so the two make one trip.

Which one to go to

On a Monday, Carriage House in Abington is the one of the four that publishes Monday hours.

After work, Greenhouse Needlepoint stays open until 8pm on Thursdays, and Seagrass Studio holds an open stitch on Thursday evenings from 5pm to 7:30pm.

For open stitching by day, Carriage House holds one on Saturdays from 10am to 2pm.

Before you go

• Call Hingham Square Needlepoint first. We could not confirm its hours, and its website still gives the address it has left, on North Street.
• Check Carriage House's hours after summer. Its site gives summer hours only, and it publishes no phone number, so look at its site before you set out.
• Plan around the closing days. None of the four publishes Sunday hours, and Seagrass Studio opens only from Thursday to Saturday.
• Bring the canvas if you have one. Thread and mesh have to be matched to the specific canvas, and nobody can do that from a photograph. See our thread guide for what that pairing involves.

FAQ

Are there needlepoint shops in Plymouth or New Bedford?

Not in either that we have been able to confirm. From the middle of Plymouth, Greenhouse Needlepoint in Hanover is about seventeen miles northwest and Carriage House in Abington about nineteen. From the middle of New Bedford, Seagrass Studio in South Dartmouth is about five miles south.

What about Wareham or Fall River?

From the middle of Wareham, Osterville Needlepoint Shop in Mashpee, on our Cape Cod page, is about fifteen miles southeast, and Seagrass Studio is about sixteen miles southwest. From the middle of Fall River, The Picket Fence in Barrington, on our Rhode Island page, is about eleven miles west, and Seagrass Studio about twelve miles southeast.

Is Seagrass Studio the old Village Needlepoint?

It is at Village Needlepoint's address, 1 Bridge Street in Padanaram, and its site says Elizabeth reopened the needlepoint shop there in July 2025. Older listings still use the Village Needlepoint name.

Can I get a finished piece made into a pillow or stocking?

Carriage House offers finishing to local customers and arranges it in the shop. At the others, ask when you visit.
