Needlepoint Shops in Seattle and on the Eastside
Three shops, one in the city and two across Lake Washington, and between them one is open every day except most Sundays.
Seattle has one needlepoint shop inside the city and two more across Lake Washington on the Eastside. Heirloom Designs Studio is in Madrona, Rain City Needlepoint is in Bellevue, and Threadneedle Street is farther east in Issaquah.
Their hours overlap more than they match, so the day you go usually decides which one to visit.

Canvases, fibers, accessories, and self-finishing products, with classes and events. It was founded by two sisters, Samantha and Gillian, and sits in the Madrona neighborhood, about two miles east of downtown.
It calls itself Seattle's only full-service needlepoint shop, and within the city that matches what we found. The other two shops on this page are across the lake.

Hand-painted canvases, threads, and needlework books, on Front Street in Issaquah. It is the one of the three open on a Monday.
The shop's number is a landline that cannot receive texts, so call rather than message.
Which one to go to
If you are in the city, Heirloom Designs Studio is the one, open Wednesday to Saturday. It is the only shop on this page on the Seattle side of the lake.
If it is a Monday or a Tuesday, cross to the Eastside. Threadneedle Street is open six days from Monday, and Rain City Needlepoint from Tuesday. Rain City is also the one for an evening, with its sip and stitch on Thursdays until 8pm, and for a Sunday, though only the first of the month.
Bellevue and Issaquah are under nine miles apart as the crow flies, so the two Eastside shops make a single trip.
Before you go
- Sundays are thin. Rain City opens on the first Sunday of the month, noon to 4pm, and the other two not at all.
- Call Threadneedle Street, do not text it. Its number is a landline, and the shop says so.
- Bring the canvas if you have one. Thread and mesh have to be matched to the specific canvas, and nobody can do that from a photograph. See our thread guide for what that pairing involves.

Is there a needlepoint shop in downtown Seattle?
Not that we found. Heirloom Designs Studio in Madrona is the closest, about two miles east of downtown.
Which one can finish a piece for me?
Rain City Needlepoint offers finishing. Heirloom Designs Studio stocks self-finishing products if you would rather do it yourself. Either way, ask about timing well before a holiday.
Do any of them teach beginners?
Heirloom Designs Studio and Rain City Needlepoint both run classes and events. Ask in the shop, or check their sites for the current schedule.
