Needlepoint Shops in Sun Valley and Ketchum

Two shops about 0.3 miles apart in Ketchum, Sun Valley Needle Arts on First Avenue North and Knit+Needle on Walnut Avenue.

Ketchum has both of the needlepoint shops we can confirm around Sun Valley, about 0.3 miles apart. Sun Valley Needle Arts is beneath the Magic Lantern Theater on First Avenue North, and Knit+Needle is on Walnut Avenue. Each is under a mile southeast of the middle of Ketchum and about one and a half miles west of the middle of Sun Valley.

Both sell yarn as well as needlepoint, and both are closed on Sundays and Mondays, so a visit to either falls between Tuesday and Saturday. Thursday is Knit+Needle's late day, until 7pm.

Which one to go to

For a canvas of Sun Valley itself, go to Sun Valley Needle Arts, which sells hand-painted Sun Valley canvases of its own.

For finishing, or a canvas painted to order, Knit+Needle, which offers finishing for pieces from ornaments and pillows to leather goods and Christmas stockings, and paints custom and monogrammed canvases, and canvases from children's drawings. Sun Valley Needle Arts does not list a finishing service on its site, so ask there.

On a Thursday evening, Knit+Needle again, open until 7pm, with a stitch group in the shop from 5pm.

• The two make one trip. They are about 0.3 miles apart, and both open from Tuesday to Saturday.
• Mind the 4pm close at Sun Valley Needle Arts. It opens from 11am to 4pm; Knit+Needle stays open until 5pm, and until 7pm on Thursdays.
• Ask about the Sun Valley Stitch Club. Knit+Needle says it meets every Monday from 2pm to 4pm at different places around town, and asks you to contact the shop to find out where.

Not one we have been able to confirm. Both Ketchum shops are about twelve miles north of the middle of Hailey.

Not one we have been able to confirm. The Ketchum shops are about ninety-four miles east of the middle of Boise and about seventy-seven miles north of the middle of Twin Falls.

Can I learn here as a beginner?

Yes. Knit+Needle teaches a one-hour Needlepoint 101 at 10am from Tuesday to Saturday, and says its beginning to advanced needlepoint classes, and its classes for children, are enrolling; sign up by phone or in the shop. The class schedule on Sun Valley Needle Arts' site dates from 2019, so call it to ask what it teaches now.
