Two shops about five miles apart, Needlepoint Studio of Sarasota on South Tamiami Trail and The Red Thread Atelier, new this fall on South Osprey Avenue.
Sarasota has two needlepoint shops we can confirm, about five miles apart. The Red Thread Atelier is on South Osprey Avenue, about a mile south of downtown, and Needlepoint Studio of Sarasota is on South Tamiami Trail, about six miles south.
Both open from Tuesday to Saturday, so any of those days covers both.

A fully stocked shop of hand-painted canvases, threads, accessories, books, and embellishments, with canvases painted by local artists, some exclusive to the shop, and stitch guides, finishing, group classes, and private lessons.
Some retailer lists give 7390 South Tamiami Trail; the shop's own site gives 7222. Closed on Sundays and Mondays.

The second shop of The Red Thread Atelier, whose first is in Locust Valley on Long Island, opened in September 2026 off Hillview Street, just south of downtown, by an owner who grew up down the street. Canvases and threads.
Park on Hillview, on Osprey, or on the streets that cross them, not in the Morton's or Veronica's lots, where the shop warns you will get a ticket. Closed on Sundays and Mondays.
Which one to go to
On a Tuesday, The Red Thread Atelier opens at 2pm and stays open until 6pm, so go to Needlepoint Studio in the morning and the Atelier in the afternoon.
For lessons, a stitch guide, or a canvas painted locally, go to Needlepoint Studio.
Before you go
- Neither opens on a Sunday or a Monday.
- Bring the canvas if you have one. Thread and mesh have to be matched to the specific canvas, and nobody can do that from a photograph. See our thread guide for what that pairing involves.
