Four shops over about thirty-four miles, from Lake Park and Palm Beach down to Delray Beach and Boca Raton.

We can confirm four needlepoint shops in Palm Beach County, spread over about thirty-four miles from north to south. In the north, Needlepoint Alley is on U.S. Highway 1 in Lake Park, about six miles north of downtown West Palm Beach, and Lycette Designs is on the island of Palm Beach, about six and a half miles south of Needlepoint Alley. In the south, Stitches by the Sea is on Atlantic Avenue in downtown Delray Beach and Marion's Nimble Needle is on State Road 7, about seven miles west of downtown Boca Raton; the two are about twelve miles apart.

The two pairs are about seventeen miles apart at their closest, from Lycette Designs to Stitches by the Sea. None of the four opens on a Sunday or a Monday.

Which one to go to

For Lycette's own canvases, go to Lycette Designs on the island. Plan ahead for finishing there: its site gives six to seven months as its standard time.

For the longest day, Lycette Designs is open until 5pm. The other three close between 2pm and 4pm.

In the south of the county, Stitches by the Sea and Marion's Nimble Needle are both open from Wednesday to Saturday, so one trip can take in both if you reach Marion's by 2pm.

For a canvas painted to order, Stitches by the Sea and Marion's Nimble Needle both offer custom designs. To have a canvas stitched for you, Needlepoint Alley offers a stitching service.

Before you go

• Call Stitches by the Sea and Marion's first. The first calls its published hours its summer hours, and the second dates its hours to November 2021.
• Check Lycette's calendar. The shop posts each day's hours on a calendar on its site and says they are subject to change.
• Bring the canvas if you have one. Thread and mesh have to be matched to the specific canvas, and nobody can do that from a photograph. See our thread guide for what that pairing involves.

FAQ

Is there a needlepoint shop in Jupiter or Wellington?

Not one we have been able to confirm in either. Needlepoint Alley is about nine miles southeast of the middle of Jupiter, and Lycette Designs is about fifteen miles east of the middle of Wellington. A Perfect Stitch, which sells needlepoint online, still says on its site that a storefront is coming soon to Wellington; we will check it again once it opens.

What about Stuart and the Treasure Coast?

This page covers Palm Beach County only. Needlepoint Land in Stuart has closed: its own website says its store there closed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Needlepoint Alley is about thirty miles southeast of the middle of Stuart, and Seaside Needlepoint, on our Vero Beach page, about thirty-one miles north.

Are Lycette Designs and Lycette of Newport the same business?

Yes. Lycette Designs has two shops, this one and the one in Newport on our Rhode Island page.

What about Naples or Miami?
