The Twin Cities have a full-service needlepoint shop on each side. The Picket Fence is in Edina, about six miles southwest of downtown Minneapolis, and 3 Kittens Needle Arts is in Mendota Heights, about five miles south of downtown St. Paul.
Both keep short daytime hours, 10am to 3pm, and neither opens on a Sunday or a Monday, so the day you go matters more than which side of the river you live on.

Which one to go to
On a Wednesday or a Friday, 3 Kittens Needle Arts is the only choice: it is open Tuesday to Saturday, and The Picket Fence opens only on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
For hand-painted canvases, The Picket Fence is the specialist, with its own in-house artist and custom designs from local painters. Both shops run classes and trunk shows, and both finish pieces.
The two are about ten miles apart, so on a Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday you can see both in one outing.
