Needlepoint Shops in Birmingham

Two shops south of the city, plus a finishing workroom in Homewood.

Birmingham's two needlepoint shops are both south of the city, about eight and a half miles apart. Magic City Needlepoint is on Rocky Ridge Road in Vestavia Hills, about seven miles south of downtown, and The Southern Stitch Needlepoint is on Manning Place in Shelby County, about thirteen miles southeast.

Each has one late day, Wednesday until 6pm at Magic City and Tuesday until 8pm at The Southern Stitch, and both are closed on Sundays and Mondays. A finishing workroom in Homewood, below the cards, takes finished canvases on two mornings a week.

After work, The Southern Stitch on a Tuesday, until 8pm, or Magic City on a Wednesday, until 6pm.

For classes or finishing, Magic City Needlepoint, which lists both.

For a kit with everything in it, The Southern Stitch, whose kits come with the canvas, thread, a needle, scissors, stretcher bars, tacks, and a project bag.

Needleworks is a finishing workroom, not a shop: it stopped selling canvases and thread in February 2019. If you have stitched something and want it made into a pillow, an ornament, a stocking, or a sign, this is where to take it.

Is there a needlepoint shop in downtown Birmingham or Homewood?

Not one that sells canvases. The finishing workroom is in Homewood, and the two shops are further south: Magic City about seven miles from downtown and The Southern Stitch about thirteen.

Can I buy canvases at Needleworks?

No. It stopped selling canvases and thread in February 2019 and is a finishing workroom only. For canvases, go to one of the two shops above.

Can I learn here as a beginner?

Yes. Magic City runs Needlepoint 101 classes, with a hand-painted canvas and the threads included, and studio time with a teacher for stitchers of any level.

Is there a shop in Huntsville, Montgomery, or Mobile?
