Needlepoint Shops in St. Louis

Three shops: two about two and a half miles apart west of the city, one of them a non-profit run since 1966, and one out in Wentzville.

The three St. Louis needlepoint shops we can confirm are all west of the city. Sign of the Arrow is on Clayton Road in Ladue, about ten miles west of downtown, and The Needlepoint Clubhouse is on Manchester Road in Rock Hill, about nine and a half miles west, so the pair are about two and a half miles apart. Crossroads Needlepoint is further out, on East Allen Street in Wentzville, about thirty-seven miles west of downtown.

Sign of the Arrow and the Clubhouse are both open from Monday to Saturday and closed on Sundays, so the two make one trip on any of those days, and the Clubhouse stays open later on Wednesdays. Crossroads opens from Wednesday to Saturday, with two Monday evenings and one Sunday afternoon a month.

Which one to go to

On a Wednesday evening, go to The Needlepoint Clubhouse, open until at least 7pm, with Stitch and Sip from 4pm.

For a first lesson, go to the Clubhouse on the first Saturday of the month for its beginner class, call Sign of the Arrow to arrange a private one, or book a place in Crossroads' beginner bag tag class on its site.

From Wentzville, O'Fallon, or further west, go to Crossroads Needlepoint, which holds Stitch Club events and carries kits as well as canvases.

On a Sunday, only Crossroads opens, and only on the last Sunday of the month, from noon to 3pm.

For a needlepoint belt, go to Sign of the Arrow, whose site calls belt finishing its forte, and which adds initials to most belt canvases while you wait.

Before you go

• Coming from out of town, ask about the Clubhouse Cottage. The shop rents out a two-bedroom cottage behind it that sleeps up to four, booked by email.
• Buy Sign of the Arrow's gifts in person. Its gift stock, from tableware to stationery, is sold only in the shop, not online.
• Check Crossroads' hours on its homepage. It gives them only in a picture there, and it publishes no phone number, only a contact form.
• Bring the canvas if you have one. Thread and mesh have to be matched to the specific canvas, and nobody can do that from a photograph. See our thread guide for what that pairing involves.

FAQ

Is Sign of the Arrow a non-profit?

Yes. The St. Louis Alumnae Club of Pi Beta Phi founded it in 1966, much of its staff are volunteers, and all its proceeds go to local charities, by its own account.

Which one does finishing?

Sign of the Arrow and The Needlepoint Clubhouse; Crossroads does not mention finishing on its site. Sign of the Arrow finishes belts, pillows, purses, and holiday and Judaica pieces, and The Needlepoint Clubhouse takes finishing in the shop or by mail and charges only when the finished piece is back. The Clubhouse does no framing. Read our finishing guide before you hand anything over.

Is there one near Kirkwood or Webster Groves?

The Needlepoint Clubhouse is the nearer to both, about three miles northeast of the middle of Kirkwood and about two miles northwest of the middle of Webster Groves.

What about Chesterfield or St. Charles?

We have not confirmed a shop in either. Sign of the Arrow is the nearer to both, about ten miles east of the middle of Chesterfield and about thirteen miles southeast of the middle of St. Charles.

What about Wentzville or O'Fallon?

Crossroads Needlepoint is in Wentzville, about a mile east of the middle of the city and about seven and a half miles west of the middle of O'Fallon.

Is there a needlepoint shop in Kansas City or Columbia?
