Needlepoint Shops in Charleston

Two shops, one on Broad Street downtown and one out on James Island.

Charleston's two needlepoint shops are about three miles apart. Needlepoint.Com's flagship is on Broad Street, about 0.3 miles west of City Hall, and Lowcountry Needlepoint is on Maybank Highway on James Island, about three and a half miles west.

Lowcountry Needlepoint is the one open on Sundays, and the one open late: until 7pm on Thursdays, with an open stitch night from 5pm. Neither shop opens on a Monday.

Which one to go to

On a Sunday or a Thursday evening, go to Lowcountry Needlepoint. Needlepoint.Com is closed on Sundays and closes at 4pm.

If you are already in the historic district, Needlepoint.Com, on Broad Street.

For a first lesson, Lowcountry Needlepoint's beginner class sends you home with a hand-painted key fob canvas, thread, stretcher bars, scissors, and a reference card, and its decorative stitch classes follow on from there.

FAQ

Is Needlepoint.Com's Charleston shop a real store, or online only?

A real store, on Broad Street. The company also sells online, and its other store is covered on our Raleigh and the Triangle page.

What happened to Cabbage Row Needlepoint Shoppe?

Needlepoint.Com bought it in February 2022. By the company's account, Cabbage Row had been in the historic district for more than forty years and took its name from the buildings at 89 to 91 Church Street. The company's Charleston shop is now at 141 Broad Street.

Where can I stitch with other people?

At Lowcountry Needlepoint's open stitch night, every Thursday from 5pm to 7pm, for every level. Bring a project, or start something new there. Needlepoint.Com lists in-person events at its stores on a calendar on its site.

Is there a needlepoint shop in Mount Pleasant or Summerville?

Not one we have been able to confirm. Southern Stitch Co., based in Mount Pleasant, says it operates mainly online, with what it calls a traveling presence around Mount Pleasant, rather than from a shop. Needlepoint.Com is the nearer of the two shops here to Mount Pleasant, about four and a half miles from the middle of the town, and Lowcountry Needlepoint the nearer to Summerville, about twenty miles from its middle.

Can I find Charleston designs to stitch?

Yes. Needlepoint.Com sells Charleston canvases on its site, among them Rainbow Row, St. Michael's Cathedral, and a series of the city's houses. Ask the Broad Street shop what it has in.
