Dallas and Fort Worth between them support more needlepoint shops than most metro areas twice their size. Needlepoint never went out of fashion in Texas the way it did elsewhere, and the Metroplex has shops that have been trading for decades alongside newer ones opening in walkable neighborhoods.

Cowtown Needlepoint in Fort Worth is a finishing service and teaching business rather than a storefront, working both in person and online. If you have a stitched canvas that needs turning into a pillow or a stocking, it is worth a look even though there is no shop to walk into.

Before you go

• Call ahead. Several of these shops keep hours that vary by day, and two are closed Sundays and Mondays.
